LAHORE: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said here on Saturday that the majority of members of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) supported the creation of a province out of southern Punjab, DawnNews reported.

He added that when voting would take place, they would be unable to incur public opposition on the matter.

Speaking to media representatives at the Lahore airport, Gilani said that the commission for creating new provinces was in accordance with the Punjab Assembly’s resolution.

He added that the resolution to create a province out of southern Punjab had been presented in the National Assembly through a consensus.

Furthermore, the former prime minister said that in the next session of the National Assembly, an accountability bill will be presented and seats for minorities would also be increased in the parliament in accordance with their population.

He added that a caretaker setup would also be formed after consultation with the opposition.
