LAHORE, July 31: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed young doctors not to indulge in protest activities for the fulfillment of their demands and bring the matter to the court.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan issued these directions after it was pleaded before him that the young doctors had again resorted to protest despite the fact that the court had clearly restrained them from such activities during previous hearings of the petition seeking action against the young doctors for observing strike.
Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique filed the petition and also sought cancellation of practicing licences of the doctors.
During the Tuesday’s proceedings, Advocate Siddique argued before the court that the young doctors once again resorted to protest activities in violation of court directions. He said lives of patients in public sector hospitals were at risk due to the protest. The lawyer sought contempt of court proceedings against the doctors.
Representing the Young Doctors Association, Advocate Raja Zulqarnain said the doctors were holding peaceful protest. He alleged that the Punjab government was using delaying tactics to fulfill the YDA’s demands including service structure.
At this point, Justice Ahsan remarked that the doctors should approach the court if they had any grievance instead of resorting to protest activities.
Meanwhile, an additional advocate general told the court that the young doctors involved in infant Fahad Husain death case had not joined police investigation so far.
He said the non-cooperation on part of the doctors was causing delay in completion of case investigation.
The judge directed the accused doctors to join police investigation and adjourned further hearing by Sept 1.
The judge also issued notice to the Punjab health department and other parties concerned on an application filed by teaching cadre doctors to become party in the main case about the service structure.
