LAHORE, July 15: The revival of the economy will be the first on the PML-N’s election manifesto.

“We are working on the new manifesto and revival of economy will be our top priority,” PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid told Dawn after a meeting of the PML-N Manifesto Committee on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Sartaj Aziz.

The committee discussed the input from its different committees on the economy, education, health, law and order, energy and art and culture. The committee will prepare a new manifesto before the next general elections.

Mr Rashid said without overcoming the energy problem the economy could not be revived therefore the PML-N would handle this issue first after coming to power.

He said the PML-N before presenting the manifesto to the people would tell them how much it had implemented its manifesto in Punjab where it had the government. “We will also tell the people about the implementation of the manifestos in our previous governments in the centre,” he said, adding the PML-N would come up with a new one that would be doable.

NA-151: Making it clear that the PML-N is supporting Shaukat Bosan, an independent candidate, against Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of for former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Rashid said with the support of his party Mr Bosan would win the by poll scheduled to be held on July 19.

“Ishaq Bucha had never been our candidate and we were interested only in supporting the Bosan family which has a vote bank of 40,000 in the constituency,” Mr Rashid said. He said the PML-N had tried to persuade Sikandar to rejoin the party (PML-N) but he preferred to stay with the PTI. He said the PML-N had some 20,000 votes in the constituency and with its support Shaukat Bosan, brother of Sikandar Bosan, could win the election.
