RAWALPINDI: External Affairs Minister Mohammed Ali, who is also the Leader of the House in the National Assembly, disclosed here last night that those political prisoners who were charged with minor offences would be released immediately. Talking to newsmen after the evening session of the Assembly, Mr Mohammed Ali said: “The President has decided that those political prisoners who are charged with minor offences would be released immediately without reference to the (proposed) tribunals.” He said it would be appreciated that cases of people detained under the Security Act could not be tried in open courts for obvious reasons. He pointed out that the problem of political prisoners was a very emotional one but “it is our duty not to allow our emotions to run away with our judgment”.—Staff Correspondent
