PESHAWAR, June 16: Two brothers were killed while their third brother and another passenger sustained injuries when unidentified persons opened firing on a vehicle in Matani village here on Saturday.

The victims were travelling in a passenger vehicle, which came under attack at Yousafkhel Sheikh Wala area. The vehicle was on its way from Matani to Darra Adamkhel and the passengers on board were armed manufacturers having shops in Darra Bazar.

Sources said hat Nabi Gul and Haji Gul, residents of Yousafkhel, were killed on the spot while their third brother Nosherwan sustained injuries. Ijaz, another passenger, was also injured in the attack while other passengers remained unhurt.

According to the relatives of the killed persons, they had no enmity with anyone.

Meanwhile, police on Saturday thwarted a sabotage bid with the help of people by defusing an improvised explosive devise planted near the Kohat Bus Stand.

Unidentified persons had put a nine-kilogram bomb in a sack and placed it on roadside adjacent to Kohat Bus Stand. The residents of the area informed police about the sack lying on the roadside.

Police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The officials of Bomb Disposal Squad were also called to defuse the bomb.

Officials of Bhana Mari police station told Dawn that the bomb could have caused huge losses if it was exploded. Often, they said, huge rush could be witnessed in the area where the bomb was planted
