Two killed in road accident
ISLAMABAD, June 10: Two persons were killed while another injured critically after their van crashed into a trailer on Islamabad Expressway on Sunday, police said.
A wagon (LZB-4751) transporting fruit and vegetable from Gujranwala to Islamabad crashed into a trailer going ahead of it when its driver Arshad Mehmood tried to overtake it.
Police said Waqas Ahmed and Arif Masih who had been sitting on front seat were killed on the spot while the vehicle driver was injured badly.
Police said when they reached the scene; the truck had disappeared.
The accident victims were pulled out of the damaged vehicle and removed to the hospital.
Police said both the deceased and the vehicle driver were close relatives. The injured was taken to his native town by his relatives. — Staff Reporter

TAXILA, June 10: Two persons including a teenager were killed in separate incidents in the limits of Taxila police station on Sunday.
In the first incident, some unknown assailants killed Ghulam Fareed stabbing him with a dagger and later threw his body at a deserted place in Kohsar Colony.
In the second incident, some unknown persons shot dead 14-year-old Siddique and throw his body near Shahpur village and fled away.
On getting information, a police party reached there and shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital Taxila for autopsy.
Police have registered separate cases and started investigation. —Correspondent
Girl commits suicide
RAWALPINDI, June 10: A 10th class girl committed suicide after being scolded by her parents for her poor performance in the exam, by hanging herself in her house in Sadiqabad on Sunday, police said.
Ms Nazia, 16, daughter of Janis Ahmad, had been in distress as her father taunted her for her careless attitude to studies.
Janis Ahmed was quoted as saying: “I wanted to educate her but she was not taking interest in her studies.”
She was alone at home while her father who works at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) as a sweeper had gone to his duty when she went into her room and killed herself by hanging with her dupata tied to the ceiling of her room.
After her mother found her missing she started searching for her in the house and found her hanging with the ceiling of the room.
Though the parents informed the police shortly after the incident, the duty officer Sub-Inspector Raja Hammad took several hours to reach the scene. At this, he was suspended by the City Police Officer (CPO).
Later, she was removed to the Pims where she was pronounced dead and referred to the DHQ hospital for postmortem. — Staff Reporter
Kidnappers’ gang busted
ATTOCK, June 10: Injra police arrested three-member gang of abductors allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a bank manager for ransom a month back.
The district police headquarters said on Sunday that the anti-kidnapping squad arrested Dilawar Khan, Abidullah and Arif Zaman, the residents of Chabb village.
They had allegedly kidnapped Manager National Bank of Pakistan Mukhad branch Muhammad Irfan on May 1.
The kidnappers set him free after receiving Rs1.3 million ransom from his relatives.
Since then, the police was in their search, while the district police officer had also given a special task to anti-kidnapping squad for the arrest of the said kidnappers’ gang as the incident had created a sense of insecurity among the local people.
Meanwhile, the district police arrested 34 outlaws and recovered 3,170gram hashish, 14 pistols, a rifle, a dagger, 30 bullets and nine bottles of liquor from their possession during general hold-up. — Correspondent
Sports festival concludes
MUZAFFARABAD, June 10: A 3-day sports festival for physically challenged persons drawn from five districts of Azad Kashmir as well as the federal capital concluded in Rawalakot on Sunday. The event was organised by National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) in collaboration with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). The players contested in football, cricket, volleyball and wheel chair and clutches race. In cricket, AJK Blinds defeated Islamabad Blinds. AJK senior minister Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin and chairman Public Accounts Committee Sardar Abid Hussain distributed shields, certificates and prizes among the individuals and teams. — Staff Correspondent
