LAHORE, May 29: Robbers plundered Rs3.4 million and injured a security guard during a bank heist on Main Ferozepur Road near Ichhra Bazaar on Tuesday.

Police captured three suspects with the help of a CCTV footage and Nadra record.

Ichhra police inquiries showed that six robbers reached Bank Alfalah around 10:50am and entered the bank after overpowering security guard Nasir Mahmood. The other guard, Fazal Din, who was sitting on a chair instead of being alert, was also overpowered and injured with butt of guns by the gang.

The robbers also held staff and customers hostage, looted cash from a counter and fled within two minutes.

Senior police officers rushed to the scene, supervised evidence-gathering exercise and identified security loopholes.

DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir said three suspects had been identified as Qadeer Khan, Awal Zarin and Nadir Khan — all residents of Kohat. He said their criminal history was being traced.

The DIG said the suspects apparently looted limited cash as they didn’t go for big amount of Pakistani and foreign currency also lying in the bank.

A customer, Omair got his leg fractured when he fell from raised portion of the bank in panic.

In another incident, two robbers deprived Sajjad Rabbani and his family at their doorstep (Johar Town police limits) of six tolas of gold ornaments, Rs20,000 and other valuables.

Two robbers waylaid Mirza Qadeer and his family in D-1 Block of Johar Town and deprived them of four tolas of gold ornaments, two cell phones and cash. Three robbers entered a cell phone outlet in Bahadur Colony in Nishtar Colony police limits, tortured the shop owner and took away cell phones and laptops.
