RAWALPINDI: Inspector General Pakistan Railways Police Syed Ibn-e-Hussain said on Wednesday that Pakistan Railways has sent a reminder to ministry of finance for release of Rs 17.1 million for the installation of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at railways stations.

Talking to APP, he said, ministry had planned to install CCTV cameras at 12 railway stations across the country.

“The government was making all-out efforts to improve law and order; however, there was delay in execution of the project at the major railways station due to financial constraints.”

“The CCTV cameras will help railway security personnel in monitoring the movements of suspicious people, especially terrorists,” he added.

The cameras would be connected to a computer room at the railway station that would also help the authorities take action against violators of the ban on smoking.

He said the Railways Police, in collaboration with respective city police stations, had tightened security at all railway stations.

He said Pakistan Railways Police and Frontier Corps (FC) would get training to prevent terrorist attacks on buses and Railways system.

On the directive of Interior Ministry, the training would be imparted in two different courses at Lahore Police Academy.

The forgivers would also give tips and training to the participants of the course. The interior ministry has asked the Inspector General of Punjab, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Pakistan Railways police and FC to nominate police personnel for the training.

The first course would start from May 7 and will continue till May 11 while second course would commence from May 14 and would conclude on May 18.
