LAHORE, Feb 20: Eight men were arrested selling substandard and unhygienic food items at Lahore railway station platforms on Monday.

Headed by Railways Senior Magistrate Rana Shabbir Ahmad and consisting of PR Headquarters DSP Raja Zaheer Arshad and SHO Pervaiz Akhtar, a special team conducted surprise raids at platforms Nos 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on a directive of railways IG Syed Ibne Husain.

During checking, the team found that most of the food items on display at the stalls were either substandard or expired.

The team confiscated samples of the items and despatched these for analysis. Salesmen Roaiz (Stall 6), Afzal (Stall 9), Haneef (Stall 14), Imtiaz (Stall 29), Ashraf (Stall 30) and Khalid (Stall 53) were arrested after registration of cases against them and their contractors.
