KARACHI: Police claimed killing the commander of Tehrik-i-Taliban Balochistan Yaseen Shah in Karachi's Gulshan-i-Jamal area on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

Shah's accomplice Abdul Qadir was arrested from the scene of the gunfight.

Chief of Karachi's criminal investigations division Fayyaz Khan said two policemen were also wounded in the incident.

He said Shah opened fire when officers intercepted his car on a road and demanded that he stop.

Khan said Shah was behind a number of assassinations in Karachi.

Moreover, DawnNews quoted police as saying that Shah was also the mastermind behind the recent hand grenade attacks on mobile phone franchises.

Police said Shah was traced after a suspect arrested two days earlier told the authorities of his whereabouts. — DawnNews/AP
