LAHORE, Oct 25: Punjab University College of Pharmacy’s assistant professor Dr Khalid Husain has patented a product “A herbal composition having anti-obesity property”.

The patent is the outcome of Dr Husain’s doctorate research work that was accomplished at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University Sains Malaysia (USM), under the supervision of Prof Dr Zhari Ismail. The invention will go a long way in controlling obesity, claims Dr Husain.

He says the invention relates to an anti-obesity product made of natural herbs, which inhibits neovascularisation to the fast growing adipocytes in adipose tissue, thus reducing the deposition of fat. He says the primary object of the invention was to provide a herbal composition of a selected species from the Piperaceae family, which is capable of exhibiting an anti-obesity property.
