ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Monday that at a time when we are facing multiple challenges, the country needs unity but a political party was trying to get political mileage from the situation.

She was talking to media after addressing as chief guest at a training workshop “Responsive Reporting during Emergencies” organized by National Press Club and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here.

The minister said that the nation has given a message of unity to the entire world through holding a successful APC, but unfortunately a political party was trying to get political advantage from the situation.

She said that it was unbecoming of a leader of major political party like PML-N to criticise the president who is an elected head of state.

The minister said that we should not forget that the county is facing multiple challenges and unity was need of the hour.

“It is regrettable that “Mian Sahib” just after the APC held the press conference and shattered the myth of unity created by APC,” the minister said adding this was an effort to divert attention of the people of Punjab from the problems being faced by them.

It is beauty of the democratic system that a president surrendered his powers to the parliament and later federation transferred its powers to the provinces through 18th amendment.

To a question she said that Nawaz Sharif has been making tall claims about achievements of PML-N governments in the past, but media should also highlight the charge sheet of the 1999 when his government was overthrown.

While replying to a question about attacks over government property during protest demonstrations against loadshedding, she said that damaging public property was very unfortunate.
