KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Wednesday held a meeting with representatives of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Bank (WB) regarding post- flood need assessment at the CM House here.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah informed the delegation that due to unprecedented heavy rains, there were huge losses/ damages almost in all parts of the province, said a statement.

Particularly 13 out of 23 districts of the province are badly affected due to continuous and heavy downpour, he said.

He said that more than 8.1 million people have been shelterless and over 400 people had died while more than 100,000 animals had also died during rains.

The Sindh CM stressed upon team of ADB and WB to complete their survey and early assessment of damages and losses so that relief and rehabilitation process is enhanced in a war-footing manner.

He added that due to damages to crops and inundation of lands, the economy of the province in worst affected which will create socio-economic problems and un-employment in the affected areas.

The representatives of ADB and WB informed that the damages/ need assessment work is in full swing and is expected to be completed soon, while the assistance so approved would be extended accordingly.

Sindh Chief Minister asked the representatives of ADB and WB to expedite the need assessment as there is an acute need of food, shelter, medicines, clean drinking water for rain affected people.

Earlier, the provincial secretaries and Director General PDMA presented detailed reports of damages and needs for provision and assistance to the rain affected people.

The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Country Director ADB, Werner Liepach, Lead Operation WB, Raja Rehan Arshad.

Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Malik Israr, secretaries of the departments of Works and Services, Health, Livestock, Education, Finance, Agriculture, Local Government, and Irrigation besides Director General PDMA, Secretary to the CM Sindh Alamuddin Bullo and others were also present on the occasion.
