ISLAMABAD: Endorsing idea of new provinces, PML-N Special Committee on Monday demanded constitution of a national commission in consultation with opposition for formation of new provinces.

The meeting chaired by Party President, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, held at Punjab House proposed that the new provinces should be formed on administrative and population basis.

The Commission should also evolve a consensus on distribution of resources and amendments in the constitution in this regard.

The special committee, led by Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, referred to the July 27 address by Nawaz Sharif in which he had said that provinces should be created on administrative grounds, and a constitutional package should be announced for creating new provinces.

The meeting underlined that more provinces should be created in the larger public interest and not for political point-scoring.

The participants said the party sticks to the point that it is against creation of new provinces on ethnic and linguistic grounds, but concedes that it could be done on administrative grounds.

The meeting stressed the need for the federal government to create a consensus on the issue and bring constitutional amendment to create new provinces. The participants expressed their concern on the situation in Karachi.

Nawaz Sharif as party head expressed solidarity with the people of Sindh and assured all-out support to the people of the province in dealing with the law and order situation.
