Three killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, May 25: Three people including a woman were killed in different incidents here on Wednesday. An official of Tehkal police station said that a group

of men hurled a hand grenade in the residence of Khan Zeb at Tehkal injuring his three children. One of his daughters, Nadia, later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

In the FIR, complainant Khan Zeb blamed Imtiaz Khan, Ruhullah and Hayatullah, saying that his family had an old enmity with the nominated men.

In another case, Munir Khan was killed and his wife Shagufta injured in a firing incident in Paharipura area. The woman later told police that her family had a dispute with Khairullah, Niamatullah and Mohammad Khan who came to her house and opened fire.

Police also found body of a 25-year-old unidentified woman in Tehkal. —Bureau Report

Prizes distributed

TIMERGARA, May 25: The army on Wednesday in collaboration with the Malakand Development Project (MDP) distributed prizes among position holders of state-run primary, middle and high schools of the restive Maidan tehsil.

A function in this regard was held at Kumbar Maidan here on Wednesday.

A total of 987 boy and girl students of Kumbar and Bagh clusters were awarded prizes worth of Rs500,000. Officials said that the students of other two clusters of Maidan, Hayaserai and Zaimdara would also be awarded prizes.

Col Aamir Islam and DCO Islam Zeb distributed prizes among the students of different schools of the Kumbar cluster while officers of the education department and MDP distributed prizes among the top position holders of Bagh cluster. —Correspondent

Policemen laid to rest

KOHAT, May 25: Two policemen who lost their lives in the suicide attack on CID police station in Peshawar were buried with full official honours here on Wednesday.

The body of one of the policemen, Hamid Hussain, was brought to Kohat at noon and then shifted to Marai village for burial.

He was later laid to rest after large number of local people and government officials participated in his funeral prayers.

The body of Zakirullah, the other police official, was brought to Kohat in the afternoon and shifted to Merozai village for burial. A police contingent presented guard of honour and laid a floral wreath on his grave. —Correspondent

Substandard work

TIMERGARA, May 25: Provincial Minister for Technical Education and Minerals Nawabzada Mahmood Zeb has said he will not remain a silent spectator to the poor quality of development works in his constituency.

Talking to journalists at his residence the other day, the minister said that substandard material was being used in the new building of District Headquarters Hospital Timergara.

“I have received several complaints that substandard material is being used in the building,” the minister said, adding that he had given order to the authorities to enquire into the matter.

He directed the concerned authorities to strictly supervise building works as the government had been spending a huge amount on development despite its limited resources. —Correspondent

Blast condemned

PESHAWAR, May 25: Condemning the suicide blast at CID centre, Governor Barrister Masood Kausar and Chief Minster Ameer Haider Khan Hoti have said that the terrorists will not succeed in their nefarious designs.

In their separate statements here on Wednesday, they said that the terrorists by targeting security forces were out to strengthen the hands of country’s enemies.

Their nefarious actions could neither harm the country nor discourage the brave and selfless security forces and courageous people of the motherland, they added.

They paid rich tributes to the law enforcement agencies and appreciated their role for protection of the people and the country.

“The nation will always feel pride on its brave sons, who are sacrificing their lives for ensuring security of the motherland,” they said. —Bureau Report
