GUJRANWALA, April 18: A judicial magistrate got handcuffed three police officials on Monday and sent them to the central jail for keeping a man into illegal confinement at Ferozewala police station.

Ferozewala Station House Officer (SHO) Muddasir Butt detained Muhammad Tufail at the police station without any charge in 2008. Tufail was later rescued by a bailiff of the district and sessions court judge. The judge ordered a case against the police officials.

Tufail again moved the judicial magistrate court when he learnt that the SHO and the other two officials had been declared innocent in a police inquiry.

The judicial magistrate sentenced the three police officials to one-year imprisonment and a Rs2,000 fine each. B OOZING BUST: A dozen of wedding guests and a few women dancers were arrested for, what police say, boozing, hooliganism and aerial firing in Naushara Virkan. Dawn

learnt the police raided the wedding of Mohsin in Mangoki village where some drunken guests resorted to aerial firing only to appreciate women dancers. Though groom Mohsin fled, the police arrested guests Qaiser Ali Raza, Liaqat, Muhammad Husain, Riaz Masih, Hamid Ali, Nasir Ali, Zulfiqar, dancers Shazia, Rubab, Sonia and their musicians Faryad Baloch, Shafiq and Shah Nawaz.

DISMISSED: Four traffic wardens were dismissed from service for dereliction of duty on Monday.

City Traffic Officer Qaiser Bashir visited various places in the city and found Muhammad Younas Bajwa, Adeel Anjum, Adnan Gul, Umer Ilyas and Ahmad Hasan absent from duty. He issued them notices and dismissed them from service.

Also, four tubewell operators of disposal works were suspended from service for avoiding their duty.

Water and Sanitation Agency officials visited tubewells in the city and found Rafiq, Sharafat, Imran and Yousaf Khan absent from the workplace. REMAND: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 gave police a 10-day remand of Rashid Ahmad and Razia Bibi, the alleged plotters of bomb blasts in the city.

Kotwali police officials said they had seized detonators and explosives from them.

Also, police arrested two people for allegedly raping a blind woman in her house in Sharifpura Rahwali.

The woman (R) identified the alleged rapists through their voice. She said Ali Raza and Qasim broke into her house and raped her. Police registered a case against both accused.
