COLOMBO: Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas faced the axe as Sri Lanka announced its 15-man World Cup squad on Friday.

Jayasuriya and Vaas were part of Sri Lanka’s triumphant World Cup squad of 1996 and have represented the country at cricket’s premier tournament at the 1999, 2003 and 2007 editions.

Sri Lanka is one of the three South Asian countries hosting the February-April event.

Kumar Sangakkara will continue to lead the side, while former captain Mahela Jayawardene will be his deputy.
