LAHORE, Dec 19 Nasir Irshad, a 14 handicapper with a net aggregate of 135 emerged the second day's leader in the Governor's Cup Golf at the Lahore Gymkhana here on Saturday.

Nasir, belonging to the host club, was four strokes behind the opening day's leader Mustafa Rafi Khan on the first day but played a superb round of net 66 on the second day to upstage the other aspirants and look brilliant all by himself at the top of the leader board.

Meanwhile, overnight leader Mustafa could not maintain his winning march and was let down by nerves and some very poor putting. The interesting aspect is that his own father Dr Zahid Khan, who is also a competitor in this tournament, managed to claw his way up the leader board with some brilliant golf - his round of net 64 turning out to be the best score of the tournament.

During this round, he had 13 pars, one eagle and one birdie and three bogies, as a result of which he has considerably improved his position and appears amongst the top six.

Others who also improved their positions as a result of better showing on the second day are Shahid A. Khan and Humayun Mian. Shahid, who has a handicap of five, was extremely steady throughout the second day and with a two-day aggregate of net 140, is placed second, five strokes behind Nasir Irshad.

In the gross section, Nadeem Abbas of Sargodha leads the chase with a two day's gross of 147. M. Safdar of Gujranwala has an identical score. Kamran Ashraf (Okara) is at 151 and Zulfiqar Ali (Multan) is at 152.

In the seniors section, the outstanding one turned out to be Syed Shahgil Hussain, who is here on a holiday from America. He produced a round of gross 72. The best one amongst the veterans was Pervez Masud who won the 1st gross.

Nushmiya Sukhera was the leader at the end of the 1st round for ladies. Sunday will see the conclusion of the three-day event.
