QUETTA, July 17 A controversy over construction of the Hingol dam ended after the Water and Power Development Authority decided to change the design of the dam to protect the historical Hinglaj temple in the Lasbela district.

The Hindu community had objected the dam's design and said that the historical temple would be submerged and there would be no way to reach the temple if that design was used for the dam.

Acting Governor Mohammad Aslam Bhootani informed a delegation of Hindu community which had called on him on Friday that the Wapda chairman recently visited the site and decided to change the design. Provincial minister Engineer Basant Lal Gulshan was leading the delegation.

Mr Bhootani, who was elected to the provincial assembly from the constituency, took up the issue with the federal government and Wapda authorities.

Mr Bhootani assured the delegation that the government would provide security to the community. He took serious notice of kidnapping and killings of Hindu traders in the Bolan district.

Meanwhile, talking to newsmen in Nasirabad, the acting governor said that the federal government was spending Rs80 billion on construction of dams in the province.
