Gold medals for Dilsher and Raheela

LAHORE, Nov 7: Wapda claimed their second gold medal in the 51st  national cycling championship when Dilsher Ali won the four kilometre Individual Pursuit final at the Velodrome here Wednesday.

Dilsher clocked five minutes 12.18 seconds to win his first and Wapda’s second gold medal.

Haroon Rasheed also from Wapda earned second spot to  claim silver  medal. Haroon took five minutes 16.27 seconds  to cover the distance.

Army’s  Amjad Ali secured the third position with a  timing of  five minutes 18.74 seconds. Another Army cyclist Javed  Anwar got the fourth position.

Ghulam  Hakim and Mohammad Asif both from  Railways  gained fifth and sixth positions.

In  women section, Raheela Banu of Punjab won a gold  medal by winning the three kilometre Individual Pursuit final.  Raheela whose services were hired by the Army for this championship, but  later  withdrew  her name on a  protest  lodged  by  Punjab, clocked five minutes 40.65 seconds to earn a gold medal.

Taskeen  of  Army chased Raheela well  before finishing as runner-up.

Four kilometre Individual Pursuit (Men):

Dilsher Ali (Wapda) time: five minute 12.18  sec,  Haroon Rasheed  (Wapda) five minutes 16.27 sec, Amjad Ali  (Army)  five minutes  18.74  sec, Javed Anwar (Army) five minutes  32.25  sec, Ghulam  Hakim  (Railways) five minutes 40.62 sec,  Mohammad  Asif (Railways) five minutes 43.54 sec.

Three kilometre Individual Pursuit final (women):

Raheela  Banu  (Punjab)  five minutes  40.65  sec,  Taskeen (Army),  five minutes 46.91 sec, Bushra (Army) five minute  59.73 sec.

THURSDAY’S PROGRAMME:

30 km Individual Road Time Trial final (men) at Herbanspura Lahore  Canal  Bridge at 8am; 15 km Individual  Road  Time  Trial final (women) at 10am at Herbanspura Lahore Canal.
