KARACHI, April 16: A policeman was shot dead in Bilal Colony in Korangi on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The 50-year-old police constable, Zafar Iqbal, was standing at a bus stop to go to his work when unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled, the police added.

The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but died on his way to hospital.

“The victim was a resident of Gulzar Colony in Korangi. He was wearing his uniform at the time of the attack,” DSP of Korangi Qasim Ghauri told Dawn.

The victim was posted at the Jackson police station. He was father of three children, DSP Ghauri added.

According to official estimates so far at least 45 policemen have been gunned down in the city in 2013.
