Last week noted PTV producer Syed Aftab Azeem passed away in Karachi. He was 67. He joined PTV in 1967 and produced a variety of shows in his career but was known for his innovative religious programmes.

He began his career by doing shows for children and on one such show introduced actor Behroze Sabzwari who later on became one of the foremost actors of television.

In the 1970s, Aftab Azeem did other popular programmes such as a music show called Har Taan Hai Deepak and the famous quiz programme Neelam Ghar. During the ’80s he produced a documentary on Manasik-i-Hajj. In 2004, recognising his invaluable services, the government of Pakistan honoured him with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.

Aftab Azeem’s wife, Ghazala Yasmeen, is also a known media figure. She was the first woman announcer of PTV Karachi centre and later remained associated with its public relations department till retirement.
