ISLAMABAD: Tauqir Ali Khan, an accused in a case pertaining to a scam involving illegal sale of ephedrine, agreed on Friday to become an approver against Ali Musa Gilani, son of former premier Yousaf Raza Gilani, DawnNews reported.

Tauqir Ali made this statement after he was presented in an anti-narcotics court in Rawalpindi by Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) after remaining in judicial remand.

ANF, the prosecution agency in the ephedrine case, alleged that Tauqir was the front man of Musa Gilani and the mediator between health officials and two pharmaceutical companies Berlix and Danas.

The case, revolving around a Rs7 billion scam, surfaced in February 2012 after the Supreme Court (SC) pointed out political involvement in the alleged illegal allocation of 9,500kg ephedrine to two pharmaceutical companies and its conversion for sale in the local market.
