KARACHI, April 10: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan Hakimullah Mehsud group in Sohrab Goth.

Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Investigation Department’s counter-terrorism unit (CTU) carried out a raid in a Sohrab Goth locality and arrested a suspected TTP chief, Bahsir Khan, and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and two hand grenades from his possession, officials said.

“The suspect was acting at the behest of TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group and involved in extortion and targeted killings in the city,” said SP Raja Umar Khattab heading the CTU.

The suspect had opened up an office by the name of Insaf Aman Committee in Sohrab Goth and was involved in dispute resolution by holding Jirgas, he added.—Staff Reporter
