KARACHI, April 10: Two more policemen were gunned down in the city only a day after a station house officer had been killed in Saddar and a CID police official had come under a gun attack in the Gulbahar area, officials said.

The CID police head constable died during treatment at a hospital on Wednesday when overall four people were killed in the city in separate incidents of firing.

“The two policemen were on picket duty at Paracha Chowk when they were attacked,” said SSP West Asif Ajaz Shaikh.

Both officials suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died before they could be taken to hospital, the officer said.

They were identified as police constables Mohammad Zahid and Khalid, he said, adding that both were posted at the Site-B police station.

The SSP said that police investigators later collected several spent bullet casings of 9mm pistol from the crime scene.

SP Site Ali Asif said: “Initial findings show that they had tried to stop some suspects riding a motorcycle, but instead of pulling up the riders opened fire on the policemen and fled.”

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

CID police official dies

A CID policeman wounded in an armed attack on Tuesday night died at a hospital during treatment on Wednesday, officials said. They added that Head Constable Noor Hussain, 45, was sitting at a tyre puncture shop in Khamosh Colony in the Gulbahar area when gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at him and fled.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital, where he died during treatment on Wednesday.

He had been serving at the anti-extremist cell of the CID police for the past couple of years.

Preedy SHO killing

Meanwhile, police investigators probing the Tuesday killing of an inspector have arrived at the conclusion that his own guard killed him but whether his gun went off accidentally or it was a premeditated murder was yet to be ascertained, said officials on Wednesday.

Preedy SHO Inspector Agha Asadullah sustained a single bullet wound in the head while driving his private car on Dr Daudpota Road in the Saddar area. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

The investigators said that Constable Mohammad Nazakat was sitting on the backseat of the car when the SHO suffered a gunshot wound.

“An examination of the car indicated that the shot had been fired from inside the car, as shards of windscreen had fallen out instead of falling in the car,” said Preedy DSP Zamir Abbasi.

The official AK-47 rifle of the police constable was sent for a forensic examination, the officer said.

The DSP said that following the incident, the guard had been acting strange and had tried to manipulate the medico-legal process at the hospital.

He said: “So far it seems that it was an incident of accidental firing. However, findings may vary during the course of the investigation”.

The police guard was in police custody and an FIR of the case was yet to be registered.

The funeral prayer for the slain officer was offered at the police headquarters, Garden.

Meanwhile, two people were killed in Korangi on Wednesday night, police said.

They said Mohammad Hasan and Saeed Khan were targeted by armed motorbike riders near a paan shop in Korangi 2 ½.
