I WAS shocked to read your editorial ‘Empty skies’ (March 5). You are actually advocating something which has caused so many deaths and injuries.
I wonder if in some next issue you will cast your vote in favour of celebratory aerial firing. What if it causes a few deaths? After all, it is also a favourite sport of some. It does gladden hearts of a few. So why deny them? And why deny others?
Let it become a free for all society. And then you want the Punjab government to show some spine. Amazing!

Very true.
I fully agree with the writer. If kite flying (like celebratory aerial firing) is so dear to them, they should arrange it in an open area, like a firing range, and take all safety precautions.

It is foremost responsibility of the state to protect human lives and private prperty of all citizens, especially the law abiding citizens or the most deprived amongst them. As long as the state and those citizens who want to enjoy Basant cannot ensure that chemical thread that kills and cuts throats cannot be eliminated, kite flying should be declared unlawful and examplary punishments awarded to those found guilty. Laws are enacted but never implemented because culprits manage to get away bribing police or using political influence.

Tell a parent whose child's throat has been slit by chemical thread that this is collateral damage and also consider if this child was your son or brother, would you still respnd the same. With your kind of logic those killed by target killers may also be categorized as collateral damage, given the demands of policial exigencies and the politics of reconciliation that we have had for past 5 years under AZ.

My dear the entire country has become the firing range....we need the courage to raise our voice in print media and electronic media..... keeping the silence up will not help.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
