LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said on Friday that a caretaker government will not be formed on directions of Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri even if he launches several ‘long marches’.

Following a meeting here with PPP leaders, Wattoo advised Qadri not to become part of an activity in which he was not even a stakeholder.

He said the upcoming general elections could not be postponed even for a single day according to the constitution.

Wattoo said consensus would be developed among all political parties in parliament for a unanimous caretaker setup as not a single party wanted to the derail the democratic process.

Moreover, the PPP Punjab president said he appreciated the “wise decision” of the Muttahisa Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership of not supporting the long march and said it was a wise decision.

He said that all political parties, judiciary, media and civil society wanted a sustainable democratic system.

Wattoo said a unanimous free, independent and strong election commission had been formed which would hold fair elections and it could check anyone on an unconstitutional activity.

He reiterated the interim government would be constituted in March and that all political parties, including the PPP, had already started preparing for the upcoming elections.
