KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that all required sources will be made available for maintaining law and order in Karachi, which he said has been destroyed by a peculiar mentality.

He made this observation while chairing a meeting to review law and order with a specific reference to the situation in Karachi at the Bilawal House on Monday.

He stressed the need for a close cooperation among all law-enforcement agencies at the federal and provincial level to effectively check criminals, extremists and terrorists.Sources said that the meeting decided to ensure strict checking of vehicles on all entry and exit points of Karachi and set up monitoring check posts manned by police, the FC and Rangers.

The meeting also decided to provide modern gadgets and means of communication, including 5,000 bulletproof vests and 100 vehicles, to the police. The bomb disposal unit would also be provided with the latest equipment for defusing and detecting bombs.

The sources said that the meeting also decided to get arms licences record computerised at the earliest with the assistance of the National Database Registration Authority.

Earlier, the meeting was briefed about the new arms licence policy.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Rangers director-general, the Sindh police chief and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) were also present.
