SWABI, Dec 22: The home department registered cases against two arms dealers in the city police station here on Friday for issuing fake licences, sources said.

They said home department director Said Aftab and assistant coordination officer Hidayatullah paid a surprise visit to the district headquarters and Topi tehsil main bazaar to check the arm dealers records.

Cases had been registered in the city police station against Arshad Ali and Sons arms dealer for failing to keep the required record in the cash memo. Similarly, the sources said Shoaib and Sons arms dealer had an unregistered repeater in the shop.

They said FIRs were registered against both the dealers under section 13-AO.

They said the home department has also launched a crackdown against weapons dealers who have been getting fake gun licences for their clients.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Students and teachers have demanded a transparent system of governance in which elected representatives are accountable to the people of their constituencies during their term as members of the parliament.

They were speaking at a function organised by the government degree college Yar Hussain to honour the students who achieved distinction in examinations. Abdul Sattar, former principal of the college, was the chief guest.

They demanded introduction of a system in which the public representatives were accountable to the people during their constitutional tenure.

They said the elected representatives often disappeared from their constituencies after getting votes from the people. They said a mechanism needed to be introduced to make the parliamentarians accountable to the masses in their respective constituencies.Mr Sattar said if adopted such a mechanism would strengthen the budding democratic process in the country on one hand and help in resolving the people’s problems on the other.
