PESHAWAR, Dec 7: A delegation of the European Union on Friday assured the directorate of prosecution all possible technical assistance and training facilities so that cases especially under the Anti Terrorism Act and other heinous crimes were put to court on solid footings and high ratio of conviction could be achieved.

According to a press release, the director general of prosecution, Mohammad Arif Khattak, made presentation to the delegation during its visit to Peshawar.

The presentation was based on introduction and working of prosecution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The aims and objectives were focused on strong prosecution in order to achieve maximum results on conviction ratio.

He stated that after the enactment of Prosecution Service (Constitution, Function and Powers) Act 2005 the provincial government has been making all-out efforts to enhance the efficiency of the prosecution enabling it to stand on solid basis.

During the presentation, all administrative, financial, legal, monitoring and evaluation, reference and research issues were highlighted. Close and well coordination amongst investigating police, prosecution and judiciary also came under discussion, the press release said.

Training for prosecutors was also demanded in order to improve their working capabilities on modern scientific lines. —Bureau Report
