ISLAMABAD: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 85 percent of Pakistanis have never been to a library.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked "Have you ever been to a library?" Responding to this, 85 per cent said 'no' and 15 per cent said 'yes'.

Those who said 'yes', were then asked: "Why did you go to the library?"

Responding to this, 40 per cent of the participants said they went to a library to study, 25 per cent said they went for personal interest, 22 per cent said they went to find information on something, 11 per cent said they went to read the newspaper and 1 per cent cited other reasons.

However, 1 per cent of the respondents did not give a reply.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2679 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 11, 2012 November 17, 2012.
