KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has stressed the need for joint efforts for promoting unity and harmony.

The Chief Minister, presiding over a high level meeting at the Chief Minister House to review law and order situation, criticised previous governments' policies which he blamed for the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi.

Qaim Ali Shah said he inspected security arrangements, patrolling, and snap checking of vehicles during his travel from Khairpur to Karachi via Super and National highways, but he did not find effective security arrangements at various places, said a handout issued here on Tuesday.

He said he did not find police on various spots and pickets were empty. However, he said Rangers personnel and vehicles were present.

The Chief Minister said he did not see elaborate security arrangements in Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Mazar-e-Quaid, Saddar and M.A. Jinnah Road.

He said, only meetings are not sufficient, results should be visible, as police and Rangers have been given necessary powers.

Qaim Ali Shah said any negligence with regard to law and order would not be tolerated. He called for the arrest of target killers, terrorists and criminals.

The Chief Minister urged the police and Rangers authorities to ensure the arrest of culprits involved in the killings of innocent people.

He called for intensifying patrolling of police and Rangers on roads and streets and increase snap checking in troubled areas.

The Chief Minister said he would continue to make surprise visits to review security arrangements and take action against those officials who observe negligence in discharge of their responsibilities.

He said as the month of Muharram is approaching, strict action should be taken against those who spread ethnic and sectarian hatred. He also said steps should be taken for promoting religious harmony in the province.

On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Home Wasim Ahmed, IG Police Sindh and DG Rangers presented detailed reports.

He expressed confidence that law enforcement agencies will give results with coordination and discipline.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary Home Wasim Ahmed, IG Police Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Legari, Deputy DG Rangers Sindh, Additional IG Police Karachi Iqbal Mehmood, Commissioner Karachi Hashim Raza Zaidi and the heads of all the relevant institutions attended the meeting.
