CDA and money-making

Published November 9, 2012

THE condition of washrooms and our CDA is the same. Owing to non-payment of dues, contractors are providing washroom facility, charging Rs10 per head.

I recently used a the CDA washroom while visiting Rawal Lake. According to contractors, the CDA has not paid their Rs0.4 million, so they are compelled to take washroom charges and have secured a stay order on ladies washroom, and the case is under process.

But, ironically, there are no charges for the gents’ washroom. This kindness is just for ladies that they have to pay for using public toilet, but the one under supervision of the CDA is free.

This is what the CDA is doing in the twin cities. Also, in the Sunday market there are contractors charging the same amount.

I want to ask the CDA about their responsibilities to serve citizens. Is it not the ethical duty of the CDA to provide free-of-cost facilities to its citizens instead of selling everything to contractors and making money?
