US group slams attack

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: The Codepink — a US-based peace group currently visiting Pakistan to raise voice against drone attacks — has condemned the attack on Malala Yousufzai and offered $1,000 to the school she is studying in.

“The struggle of 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai to ensure girls’ access to education is important for women around the world,” said the peace group.

“We came to Pakistan to protest American drone attacks that have killed hundreds of innocent people,” said Medea Benjamin, founder of Codepink and leader of the 31-member delegation.

“We stand in solidarity with Pakistanis, especially women, as they fight forces working against human rights. We are praying for Malala’s quick recovery and her return to school,” a statement released by the group said.

Delegates see a connection between drone attacks and growing extremism in Pakistan. A recent report from Stanford University called drone attacks an effective “recruiting tool” for extremists.
