PESHAWAR, Sept 28: A group of students belonging to different areas of the tribal region and studying in Peshawar held a protest demonstration at Sher Shah Suri Road on Thursday against prolonged military operation in various parts of Fata.

They demanded of the government to bring an end to the operations and let the people live normal life in their areas. The protest was led by central general secretary of Fata Students Federation Gul Sattar Siddique, and Burhanuddin. The protesters were holding placards and banners calling for an end to operations and drone attacks in Fata.

Talking to reporters, the protesters said the educational activities had been adversely affected in the wake of endless military operations in the tribal areas. Gul Sattar Siddique said the tribal students were facing immense difficulties to continue their studies due to lack of poor financial position and adequate facilities at educational institutions in settled areas.

The students demanded an end to shelling and bombardment on innocent civilians during the ongoing military action in tribal areas, particularly in Khyber Agency. The protesters expressed grave concern over prolonged curfew due to which life had been paralysed and people were facing severe shortage of food and other essential items. They also called for an end to unjustified curfew.

“The government should take adequate steps for provision of appropriate education facilities to tribal students in the settled areas, and for rebuilding the infrastructure damaged during the prevailing conflict situation, they demanded. They also demanded adequate health facilities at teaching and periphery hospitals in Fata.—Bureau Report
