MIRAMSHAH: A roadside bomb targeting a military convoy on Wednesday killed two soldiers and wounded 14 others in the tribal region near the Afghan border, officials said.

The bomb was planted along the route of a convoy of the Frontier Corps in Spinwam area north of Miramshah in North Waziristan, they said.

“It was a remote-controlled device and the target was a military convoy,” a security official said. One vehicle in the 20-truck convoy was hit in the blast. There were 14 other injured soldiers in the hospital, he added.

Troops responded by launching a house-to-house search  while military helicopters shelled suspected militant hideouts, another official said.—AFP
