ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that according to the constitution trans-genders had equal rights as all citizens of Pakistan, DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case pertaining to the rights of the trans-genders.

The apex court ruled that the transgenders also have the right over family inheritance.

Moreover, the court declared that no one can deprive them from their right to their inheritance.

The apex court ordered that equal rights should be given to the eunuchs in all the fields of life including education and employment in a dignified manner.

The Supreme Court directed the authorities to send copies of the court order to federal and provincial governments and also directed strict implementation of the order.

I knew many a teachers, both male and female, who were doing other jobs right at the time when they were supposed to have been teaching in schools for which they were regularly drawing salaries albiet a bit less as they had to grease the palms of those whose duty it was to record their presence. Yes the government should earmark some funds specifically for their welfare and education of this segment of the society.

I am just wondering if they get share of a male or female in inheritance (remember male child's share is twice of a female in Islamic jurisprudence)? Also, is there a leagal definition of a transgender person (not asking anatomical definition please but how does law differ among the three kinds of people, male, female, and transgender)? Any ideas?

Makes Pakistan one of the leading countries to provide constitutional protection to transgenders. The SC has played a leading role in this. Now it is time for the SC to ensure that the constitutional rights of women and minorities of Pakistan are protected too.

They are human beings like us and everyone should respect and help them with proper dignity. I request Honorable CJ to ask government to budget some quota for them in government departments specially in education departments where our males teachers are getting salaries without teaching.
