KARACHI, Sept 20: Just over a week after the targeted killing of two policemen in the city, another police official was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Korangi Industrial Area on Thursday.

The latest shooting has brought the number of policemen killed in frequent gun attacks in the city since the beginning of this year to 61.

Earlier on Sept 10 and 11, the two police constables were shot dead in Pirabad and near Hasan Square, respectively.

On Thursday, police constable Raza Khan Marwat was passing through Bilal Colony, Sector 8/A of Korangi, on his motorbike when he was targeted, officials said. They added that the incident took place near Pakhtunabad Khan School where the policeman sustained two gunshot wounds to his head and chest and died on the spot.

The police reached the crime scene and shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The police investigators later seized two spent bullet casings of 9mm pistol found at the crime scene.

They said that the policeman had arrested several drug peddlers in the area and had also received threats to his life.

He was a resident of Sector 8/A, Bilal Colony, and father of two, the police said, adding that he originally hailed from Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Man found shot dead, another wounded A young man was found shot dead while another was critically wounded at a garbage dump on Nishtar Road, police said.

The officials quoted area people as saying that both the trussed-up victims with torture marks and gunshot wounds were dumped by a car within the remit of the Jamshed Quarters police station.

The police raced the body and the wounded to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the latter identified as 22-year-old Adeel, son of Zaheer, was admitted for treatment.

Jamshed Quarters SHO Khushnood said the deceased was identified as Mehtab Ali, a resident of Apsara Apartments in Liaquatabad. During the investigation, it emerged that Adeel was a resident of Al-Karam Square, the officer said, adding that both victims had been kidnapped before being brutally tortured and gunned down.

The victims were trussed up and blindfolded, the police said.

They quoted hospital sources as saying that Adeel’s condition was critical.

The police were not certain if the victim were associated with any political party.

Teenager shot dead

A teenager was killed in Korangi over personal enmity, police said.

They added that Farrukh, son of Shahid Bengali, was shot dead near Bismillah Stop in Sector 33-D.

The police shifted the body to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Korangi SHO Mattiullah described personal enmity as the motive for the killing. He said the victim was not associated with any political party.

Later, the police registered a case (FIR No 280/2012) on a complaint of the victim’s grandma, Jamila Bibi, against unidentified persons under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Trader killed

A shop owner was gunned down in Sohrab Goth, police said.

They added that Turkistan, 45, son of Haji Qutbuddin, was shot dead on a service road near Khadim Solangi Goth where he was to meet someone after receiving a phone call.

The victim had a bamboo shop in Janjal Goth, the officials said.

A resident of Ahsanabad, the victim was father of six and hailed from Waziristan, the police said.

They suspected personal enmity as a likely motive for the murder.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
