PESHAWAR, Sept 3: A local leader of Pakistan People’s Party resigned from the basic membership of the party on Monday, saying leadership failed to initiate any step for welfare of poor people.

Haji Niaz Mohammad, a member of PPP provincial council, told a press conference that leadership of the party remained busy in accumulating wealth by using all means during the last four years instead of resolving problems of people.

He said that he organised PPP at grassroots level in the suburban areas of Peshawar but central and provincial leaders never bothered to pay attention to the problems being faced by poor workers.

Haji Niaz, a resident of Badhber, said that the slogan of bread, cloth and shelter remained a hollow promise as party leaders focused on corruption. They had nothing to do with the problems being faced by dedicated workers, he alleged.

He said that jobs in government departments were put on sale and poor workers were not paid any attention. He said that party leaders forgot the guidelines of Benazir Bhutto after her death.

“I have been asking provincial leaders of the party including Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Arbab Alamgir, Sardar Ali and Rahimdad Khan for initiating development projects in my area for the last four years but to no avail,” Haji Niaz said.

During the past over four-year tenure of the government, he said, ministers never bothered to take workers into confidence. He said that energy crisis, unemployment and lawlessness were further aggravated and the leaders brought a bad name to PPP. Haji Niaz said that PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, provincial president Senator Sardar Ali Khan, former provincial president Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Senior Provincial Minister Rahimdad Khan, MNA Najamuddin Khan, Federal Minster Arbab Alamgir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Karamatullah Khan Chagharmatti were equally responsible for the damage caused to the party.
