Five injured on road

MANSEHRA, Aug 18: Five people two of them women were critically injured when a passenger jeep fell into a ravine near Balakot on Saturday.

The passengers were on way to Makhan Mohree area in a jeep from Balakot when driver of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn lost control over the steering as a result of which it fell into deep ravine.

The local people rushed to scene and retrieved the injured and took them to Balakot civil hospital.

The injured were identified as Sardar Noor Alam, Ghulam Qasim, Mian Abdul Munan, his wife and another woman. Balakot police after lodging FIR started investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the October 2005 earthquake the ratio of fatal accidents has risen to alarming proportions as the destroyed roads could not be rebuilt even after seven years of the tragedy.—Correspondent

Condolence meeting

ABBOTTABAD, Aug 18: A condolence meeting was held at the College of Physician and Surgeons to honour the young doctor Nisar Ali Khan, who was among 22 people killed by gunmen at Babusar Top while going to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The meeting was presided over by regional director Dr Jehangir Khan which was largely attended by professors, doctors and staff of the local chapter. Dr Nisar was in the final term of FCPS.

The participants lauded his services, praising him for his hard work and dedication in the medical profession. He was liked by his community and patients for his humbleness.

The meeting strongly condemned the massacre and offered Fateha for all the victims.—Correspondent

No one can meet ‘rape’ victim

MANSEHRA, Aug 18: The district and sessions judge has extended restriction on meeting of anybody, including policemen and portents, with rape victim Sonia till August 24. Sonia had alleged that law enforces rapped her at two police stations in Mansehra.The decision came after Taj Bibi moved the court seeking permission to meet her daughter who has been kept at Darul Aman in Abbottabad.

The representatives of the district bar association who had already got stay against the meeting of anybody, including the police and parents, appeared before the court and demanded the status quo until the identity parade of culprits, who allegedly disgraced the teenaged girl, was conducted.

Justice Dost Mohammad Khan, the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, had already taken suo motu notice of the case and sought separate reports from district and sessions judge Mansehra and commissioner Hazara.—Correspondent

Resolution of disputes

PESHAWAR, Aug 18: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa home and the local government departments will help the local reconciliation committees in settlement of disputes. These committees have been set up within the framework of the local government act.

According to a statement issued by the home and tribal affairs department on Saturday, this was one of the decisions taken by the provincial cabinet in its special 46th meeting held on May 2, 2012.It was stated that prompt and equitable resolution of minor disputes and effective implementation of courts’ decisions in civil and revenue cases might be included as a regular feature in schedule of activities for the district-based field officers.

The home department has asked the local government and rural development department and all the divisional commissioners to furnish implementation report on the above mentioned decisions on priority basis.—Bureau Report

Babusar killings condemned

PESHAWAR, Aug 18: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said we as a nation have been deeply moved by the killing of innocent passengers of Gilgit-Baltistan bound buses at Babusar top. He said the joyous occasion of Eidul Fitr had been overshadowed by the tragic killings.

Talking to Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah on telephone, the governor said the worst inhuman act of terrorism spoke volumes about the cruel mindset of the culprits. He said the killers would be brought to justice.  He also requested the GB chief minister to convey deep sympathies of the people of the province and Fata to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, the governor also talked to Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt and eulogised the timely and courageous response of the security forces to foil the act of terrorism.—Bureau Report

Festive firing banned

KOHAT, Aug 18: The District Coordination Officer Zakir Hussain on Saturday imposed section 144 of the PPC banning festive firing in Kohat district for one month.

In a statement issued here the DCO said that the ban was imposed to curb the practice of heaving firing in the air on Chand Raat and during Eid days to ensure safety of people.—Correspondent
