PARACHINAR, Aug 15: A security man was killed and five persons were injured in two separate roadside blasts in Kurram tribal region on Wednesday.

Sources said that a soldier was killed and three others received injuries in a landmine blast in Sra Garahi area of central Kurram. The four security personnel were patrolling the area as a routine. The injured were taken to a local hospital.

In the second incident, a passenger van was targeted by a landmine, planted by suspected militants in Bagzai area. Two passengers suffered injuries in the explosion.

In Orakzai Agency, security forces arrested 10 suspected militants and seized a huge cache of arms and explosives during a search operation in Mamozai area on Wednesday.

Sources said that the arrested persons were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation. They said that a huge cache of arms and explosives was also recovered during the operation.

Two security men and 25 militants were killed in a fierce gun battle in the area on Tuesday. Twenty two security men including Capt Traiq Jamil suffered injuries in the clash.

In Swabi, unidentified militants targeted the power transmission line from Tarbela Dam to Peshawar in Marghuz area on Tuesday night.

Police said that three of the four explosive devices, planted at a power pylon, went off at midnight, blowing up its three legs.

However, the fourth explosive device didn’t go off and power supply to the provincial capital remained intact.

Several incidents of similar kind have been taken place in the same area in the past. The unexploded device was later defused by Bomb Disposal Squad. The explosions awakened the residents of the area. Police reached the area soon after the blasts and collected evidence.

“The transmission line passes through many congested and barren areas. It is difficult for us to keep the entire transmission line under watch but we are still working on a strategy to protect it,” a police official told Dawn. He said that an FIR was registered against unidentified militants at Zaida police station.

Meanwhile, Wapda authorities have been working on repairing of the damaged pylon. Tarbela Dam officials told this correspondent that the repair work would be completed soon.

They said that power supply to Peshawar was not disconnected. “We have ensured uninterrupted supply to the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” said an officer.
