ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The Pakistan Muslim League-N said on Thursday that a continuing war of words between itself and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf could be brought to an end with the help of a judicial commission or a panel of TV anchorpersons through a live debate.

The suggestion was made by the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly and PML-N stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan at a news conference two days after PTI chairman Imran Khan announced that he would take Khwaja Asif and other PML-N leaders to a court of law for levelling “false and baseless allegations” against the cancer hospital he founded.

However, the proposals were rejected by the PTI which termed it a “political gimmick” and an attempt to divert the public attention from the pending corruption references in various courts against the Sharif family.

“Imran Khan, put up or shut up,” said Chaudhry Nisar, asking the PTI chief to agree on any of his proposals. He challenged Mr Khan to produce documentary evidence to prove his allegations against the PML-N leadership, particularly against Nawaz Sharif and members of his family.

He suggested that a judicial commission or a tribunal comprising in-service or retired judges could be requested to help determine the truth.

Leaders of the two parties should submit documentary evidence to the proposed commission / tribunal to prove their charges against each other, he added.

Responding to a question, the PML-N leader said he had suggested the constitution of a commission as liable laws in the country were `very weak’. Chaudhry Nisar said if Mr Khan was afraid of appearing before a judicial commission he should accept his second proposal and nominate his team for a public debate on TV in the presence of five neutral and impartial anchorpersons. He presented a list of 12 TV anchors and asked Mr Khan to choose any five from the list to conduct the debate.

He said the PML-N was ready to provide to the proposed commission details of foreign businesses and assets of the two sons of Nawaz Sharif.

Commenting on Mr Khan’s threat to drag those pointing fingers at him to the courts, Chaudhry Nisar expressed his surprise as to why the PTI chief had not so far sued him as he had already levelled serious allegations against him. He said Imran Khan had a habit of running away from the field after throwing a challenge.

Accompanied by local party MNAs, the PML-N leader said that all allegations levelled by Mr Khan against Nawaz Sharif were old and fabricated by Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

Chaudhry Nisar called Mr Khan the “biggest tax evader” and questioned “how a person who has evaded tax throughout his life and committed money laundering” could make a claim that he would end corruption from the country within 90 days.

He said Mayfair flats owned by the Sharifs were not hidden from anyone, adding that building a house, a flat or even a castle in the UK was not a difficult job as anyone could do it by paying a small proportion of amount and availing the facility of mortgage.
