LAHORE: The Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) will launch a publication and a documentary in the memory of the legendary ghazal singer, Mehdi Hassan, at a ceremony after Ramazan, officials told Dawn on Sunday.

“The tribute will include a session of paper readings on the late singer, a ghazal festival, the lunch of a documentary and a publication containing articles on his life and works,” Amna Pataudi, director of the Shakir Ali Museum, said.

The Shakir Ali Museum is a subsidiary of the Islamabad-based PNCA in Lahore. Ms Pataudi said the entire activity aimed at paying rich tributes to the celebrated singer in a befitting manner.

“We are expecting celebrities from the entertainment and literary circles, a number of ghazal fanciers and the fans of the late singer,” the director said. She said the tribute would be first held in Islamabad and later in Lahore and Karachi.

She said that after Eid the museum would hold a three day inter- country dialogue in which experts would brainstorm on the restoration of Shakir Ali’s works. “We will also hold a video conference with foreign experts on the issue,” she said.
