The extraordinary journey

This is regarding the story The extraordinary journey by Mohammad Hasan Ali (YW, July 14, 2012). Hasan has written a very creative story but the moral in the end was a negative one. As at the end of the story, the boy saves himself by lying to his parents about his whereabouts.

I would like to suggest that such stories should not be part of the magazine as they give a very wrong message.

Plagiarism

This is with reference to the story, The magic potion by Misaal Khalique (July 21, 2012). I am utterly disappointed to inform you that the story is not original. It is a copy of Alan McDonald’s story The personality potion.

Copying other people’s work has become a common practice among young writers. Please blacklist such contributors who steal others’ ideas.

Life is like a bus

This is with reference to the article Life is like a bus by Subul Bari (YW, July 14, 2012). The writer correctly said that we have control over the steering wheel of our life. Either we steer it ourselves and get out of life what we really deserve, or hand over it to others and let them decide what we should have according to their own interests.

I agree with the writer where she said that we should look at our lives through the windscreen and not the rear view mirror.

Unfortunately, it is true that we all cry over spilt milk and ruin our present because of our past, which adversely affects our future. Therefore, it would be wise to say that we should learn from our mistakes in the past, improve our present and create a bright future ahead.

Suggestions

I am a big fan of the Young World magazine. Years ago, I and my sisters would argue on Friday nights about who would wake up the earliest to get hold of the Young World and read all articles first. It was definitely a very good start to Saturday mornings.

As I grew up, I decided to contribute to the magazine too and I am really thankful to the YW team for publishing one of my articles. However, I would like to give a suggestion that there should be more articles by young writers in the magazine.

Other than that, story writing competition can also be started which would increase readers’ interest in the magazine and generate very helpful activity for them.

Super Sis

I am a regular reader of the Young World magazine. Long time ago there used to be a column in the YW titled Super Sis, in which children used to send their problems.

I request the YW team to restart this column as it was not only interesting but useful as well.
