RAWALPINDI, July 15: Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) in collaboration with Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) organised an exhibition called Women Art and Craft on Sunday.

Handicrafts, comprising of hand made jewelry, pottery decoration, dresses, and glass work, made by imprisoned women were displayed in the exhibition.

The main objective of the exhibition was to present the handicrafts of the women to the public so that they may earn their livelihood in a respectful manner.

In addition to the arts and crafts exhibition, a drama “Hawa ki Beti” was also presented in the Council’s auditorium. Famous actors Ejaz Baig, Iffat Chaudhry, and Saleem Babba played the leading roles. The drama presented the challenges and difficulties faced by women in our society.

After the drama, music was arranged for the participants. Renowned folk singers of the region, Nadeem Ali Khan and Akhtar Channan, performed and were highly appreciated by the audience.

Nosheen Akbar, SPO official, said that women made up 52 per cent of our society, and progress without the empowerment of women is not possible. She said the imprisoned women were also part of the society, and it was the people’s duty to make them active members of the society.

Rawalpindi Arts Council resident director Waqar Ahmed said the Council was allowing women to be represented. “It is a great honour for the Council that a platform is also being provided to those women who are imprisoned,” he added.

An immense crowd participated in the events.
