KARACHI, July 11: A young woman was killed when a stray bullet hit her inside her house in Lyari on Wednesday, police said.

They said that Saima, 30, wife of Ghulam Akbar, was washing clothes in the courtyard of her house in Lassi Para when a bullet hit her in the shoulder and pierced her chest.

She was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where she was pronounced dead on arrival, said a duty officer at the Kalakot police station.

Quoting hospital sources, he said that the victim woman was seven- to eight-month pregnant.

The police said that at the time of the incident, two men, identified as Junaid and Noman, the sons of a wanted man Mullah Nisar of the banned Amn Committee, had exchanged fire and Noman was wounded in the shoot-out. However, his accomplices managed to take him away to some private place for treatment, said an area police officer, requesting anonymity.

Till late in the night, no one from the family had come to the police station for the registration of an FIR, the police added.

Young driver shot dead

A young man was shot dead in Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday, police said.

They said that the killing took place near Vita Chowrangi where an armed motorcyclist shot Afsar Ghaffar, 30, when the latter was walking to his workplace after alighting from a bus.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the hip and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.

The police said that the victim was a resident of F.B. Area and was employed at a private chemical company as a driver.

Man shot dead in Orangi house

A young man was shot dead inside his house in Orangi Town on Wednesday.

Police said that the killing took place in Faqeer Colony where attackers barged into the house of Abdul Raheem, 25.

They shot the victim in the head and fled from the scene, they added.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was a trader of used garments.

The police suspected that he might have been killed due to a personal enmity.
