ABBOTTABAD, July 9: An anti-terrorism court on Monday awarded death sentence to a serving police official along with two others, and life imprisonment to eight persons in a kidnapping and murder case.

The court also confiscated all movable and immovable property of the convicts and fined them Rs500,000 each.

The court after hearing the case of kidnapping and killing of Yawar Saleem Hayat announced the judgment and handed death sentences to ASI Ali Asghar and his two accomplices Ibrahim and Shehzad.

It may be recalled that Yawar Saleem Hayat, resident of Haripur, was kidnapped for ransom one year ago and was later killed and the body was dumped near the Tarbela Dam.

The police had registered two cases, one under section 302 against ASI Ali Asghar, Ibrahim and Shehzad, and second under section 365/A against eight accused. They included ASI Ali Asghar, his brother Ishaque, nephew Ilyas, Shehzad, Mumtaz, Fida Mohammad, Abdul Haleem and Ibrahim.

OFFICE-BEARERS ELECTED: Agha Shabbir advocate and Rashid Javed were elected as president and general secretary, respectively, of Hazara Tax Bar Association in the election held on Monday.

Mansoor Sattar Lodhi and Khuzaima Qasim were elected as vice president and secretary finance, respectively. Tax lawyers and accountants from all over Hazara Division participated in the election.
