ISLAMABAD: Granting former minister Babar Awan's request in the contempt of court case against him, the Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing to July 11, DawnNews reported.

A two judge bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Athar Saeed heard the case.

The former law minister is facing the charge for his jibe at the judiciary at a press conference he addressed on Dec 1 last year soon after the Supreme Court had ordered a probe into the memogate scandal by Tariq Khosa.

During the hearing, Awan presented a medical certificate before the bench.

Upon which, Justice Saeed remarked that Awan was reaching the conclusion of his arguments adding that everyone should be aware of their respective responsibilities.

Granting his request for adjournment, the bench directed Awan to continue with his medical treatment.

The court said that Awan should appear in court on Wednesday if he had recovered by then, otherwise, the court would give him more time.

Prior to the hearing, Awan had submitted his application for absence to the Supreme Court.

Awan had pleaded that he had to travel to Rawalpindi for a medical check-up which was why he could not appear in court.
