HYDERABAD, July 5: Leaders of the Awami Tehrik have accused the People’s Party of “leaving Sindhis at the mercy of terrorists” and of making compromises that will harm the province.

They also lashed out at PPP ministers and other leaders for “listening to speeches by a terrorist at nine zero,” terming it an insult to parliament. The Awami Tehrik leaders were speaking at a Mohabbat-i-Sindh rally outside the press club on Thursday. They raised slogans against division of Sindh. Qadir Ranto, the party’s senior vice president, secretary general Anwar Soomro, Hyderabad district president Noor Ahmed Katiar and Sindhiani Tehrik leader Husna Rahujo led the rally. Mr Ranto said it was unfortunate that at a time when “terrorists are killing Sindhis, PPP leaders are supporting them”. He criticised Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf for visiting the Muttahida’s headquarters. Qadir Ranto condemned the PPP high command for sidelining Zulfikar Mirza, the former provincial home minister, after he started speaking out for Sindh’s rights. He opposed the Zulfikarabad city project, saying that people of Sindh would never let the plan turn into reality. Anwar Soomro, the Awami Tehrik’s secretary general, said Sindhis were determined to put an end to “all the wrongs and injustice meted out to this province”. “The people of Sindh will not vote PPP to power any longer as it has been a party to excesses against the province,” Mr Soomro observed. Husna Rahujo said Sindhi women saw themselves as inheritors of Bakhtawar Shaheed’s legacy and would protect every inch of Sindh.

Protest against builders Scores of residents of Daman-i-Kohsar demonstrated against builders outside the press club here on Thursday, accusing them of fraud in allotment of plots. The protesters said that builders mafia and their agents were blackmailing the administrator of Daman-i-Kohsar housing scheme and its allottees. They said that builders had sold fake ownership files of plots and allotted one plot to several people 12 years ago. An inquiry was in progress in this connection and litigation was also pending in the court, they said. Since no action had been taken against builders they had become more audacious, they said.
