TANK/LADHA/KHAR, June 29: A woman and her grandson were killed and two of the same family injured after a mortar shell fell on a house in Khaisara area of the Frontier Region Tank early on Friday.

The owner of the house, Ayub Khan, an ex-soldier, and his father were among the injured, who were shifted to the hospital after the incident.

Locals said security forces and militants were exchanging heavy fire when the shell fell on the house.

However, it could not be ascertained who fired the shell.

Mr Ayub told Dawn that the shell also killed several of his domestic animals.

In Khar, a youth was killed and another injured after three missiles fired by militants from across the border fell on a house in the Aawe Shah area here on Friday evening.

People said the deceased was Ihtesham and the injured Jawad, whose condition was critical at the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar.

They said the missiles were fired from the western Afghan province of Kunar.

People said volunteers of Mamond Qaumi Laskhar took positions near the border soon after the attack.

An official of the administration blamed Pakistani militants holed up in Kunar for the attack and said investigation into the incident had been launched.
